| Vista Ultimate 32bit | Local proxy server refusing connections, Vista 32bit Hey all, New to this here... trying to set up a local proxy server on my 32bit Vista Ultimate system. Here's what I did, in a nutshell: 1. Set up the SSH/SOCKS server using freeSSHd. It is running properly. SSH works fine. 2. I unblocked my SSH port (default is 22, but I used 22822 for extra security), on Windows Firewall. 3. I'm an administrator and running with UAC off. (Logging into the "superadmin" didn't make a difference...) 3. I set up port forwarding on my router (Microsoft), but I'm not 100% sure this is correct... Under Persistent Port Forwarding, I added this entry: Enabled (checked), Description: ssh, Inbound port: 22822 - [____] (there is a second textbox, separated by a hyphen, I assume for port ranges. I just have 22822 filled in), TCP, Private IP Address: 192.168.2.[My computer IP], Private Port 9999. Private Port 9999 because when I started the server, it is configured to tunnel through 9999 from 22822. I think. Can somebody help me verify this? Anyway, when configured to use SOCKS v5 Proxy, Firefox says "Proxy server is refusing connections" - I'm not sure why. Google yields few results, and it's really starting to irk me, because this isn't working. Thanks for any help! -Matt |

| Vista Ultimate x64 | Re: Local proxy server refusing connections, Vista 32bit Hey Matt, Can you explain your network topology more? Do you have two boxes, one acting as a proxy server, or just one box acting as a proxy server and client to itself? Just for fun, try unblocking 9999 on your Windows Firewall. For testing purposes, you may want to DMZ your server. There should be a setting in your firewall. This will rule out your router as the issue. Other than that, I can't say I have much to offer. I might think of something later once I understand more about your network topology. |
