I am wirlessly connecting Vista Laptop(Host) with XP Laptop(Client). Wireless connection has been established. But i cant see XP Laptop in Vista(in network folder, just a internet gateway device icon gets displayed not the connected laptop). Also while sharing a file i cant see the XP laptop in file sharing wizard. I tried connecting to Vista Laptop(via XP) by typing //Vista_Laptop_name, but cant access it.

How can i see Vista laptop in XP one after creating AdHoc connection(and vice versa) and share files consequently.

I am facing another problem:- the wireless connection between laptops keep dropping.

Thanks in advance for help.

Thanks,
Amit

Steve,

Thanks a lot for solution. I have installed LLTD on XP and made workgroup of both Laptops same. Now I could share the files.

But, I am facing another problem here. The Wireless connection between laptops is not stable. It keeps dropping.

Could anyone please tell me the solution for this.

Thanks,
Amit

Try changing the channel number of the wireless network.
Look at your firewalls.
Try changing to static ips set on both laptops.

Hi,

Glad that worked.

As for the wireless, it sounds like you have a competing wireless network near you. As Roy69 told you, go into the adapter properties and change the channel you are using. Next thing is apply security to the network and it will only allow your computers into the network.

Most common problem for the wireless coming and going is nearby networks on the same channel, A microwave oven in line of sight between your two computers (should only cause interference when using the microwave) and what it sounds like to me is you may have a 2.4 ghz wireless phone system in your house. Again, change the channel on the net and if that does not work, consider upgrading phones to 5.4 ghz (Guessing on numbers) phone. Easy way to check is to shut down phones and connect and if signal becomes stronger and stable...thats it.

Good Luck,

Steve

Hi,

As we are in the vista forum, I assume you have vista, so here we go.

Go to network and sharing

click view status

click on properties (bottom of page)

Click on advanced

Scroll down to channel number nad set to a different number

Now, the hard part as you have to change the channel in your wireless router. Cant help on that as I have no idea which router you use. If you know how to get into the router from your web browser, locate wireless settings and change them there. Make sure you change both or your connection will not work.

if this fails get a network cable and try to establish a network this way first. Once this is done you can try to set up the wireless network.

Hi Roy and Steve,

I deleted the wireless connection and made new connection. I changed channel no also.

Thing is that for initial 5-10 mins connection is unstable but after that its stable and strength is also good. I dont know if thats the expected behaviour.

I was also trying Internet Connection Sharing through Vista to XP. I shared Local Area connection in Vista and I could also see the Shared Connection in XP.

What should I do next to connect to this shared IC and start browsing.

Thanks :-)

You need to set up internet sharing on the Host machine.
To network the computer have the workgroup as the same.
I am not sure about the rest as I am at work and not using a vista machine.
PM me and I will go through the procedure.
