Vista 64bit and networking.

Hi guys and gals,

wondering if someone can offer me some advice.

I recently got a new company laptop, an HP Compaq 8510p and it came fully loaded with vista on it and the option on wether or not to have 32 or 64 bit version. I decided to go with the 64, can not go back to 32 now (unless I flatten it using a MVL Software disc)

I have tried connecting it to the network using the onboard LAN and it can not find the network, not even a connection to the internet. The LEDS on the lan port light up when plugged in, so I know it is seeing some voltage. I then plug the thing in to a little adsl netgear hub and off it goes to the internet.

I thought that was strange so I tried sonnecting to the company's wifi, it connects but doesn't seem to transfer any data. So I try the adsl netgear box and off it runs, I can get on to the internet.

I am running a windows 2003 64bit server as my dhcp server and have hp procurve 2828 switches on the lan.

It baffles me as to why a little £80 router will work but yet a rather expensive LAN will not play.

Since I have put XP on the laptop it has been working ok, I stuck xp on it as i really needed to get the thing working, now as work dies down I want to get vista working properly.

Any ideas anyone? Any tips greatly appreciated.

Kind Regards

Jock
