| Vista Ultimate x64 | Dial-up on Nildram "broadband"... Probably not a Vista issue but you never know... To cut a very long saga short, I lost my BB connection at 0130hrs Thursday. My ISP (Nildram) told me that BT had been carrying out 'some work' and that normal service would be resumed by morning. Morning came and still nothing so I phoned again. I was then given the runaround for neary three days while they "tried" to get to the root of the problem. It turned out that they had switched from PPPOE to PPPOA and hadn't bothered telling anyone... Service resumed. However, my download speed is now a maximum of 200kbs (0.2 Mbps) and typically around 30kBs where it should be around 4Mb - and they can't find a reason. http://www.thinkbroadband.com/speedt...205331248.html • BT say the line is ok • Ping and tracert checks seem fine (avg of 22ms). • Router control panel reports speed as 4Mb +/- (Should I be on a Public or Private Network? (Currently Public)) Anyone have scooby what could be wrong here? Router is Netgear DG834 v3 - all drivers up to date Netgear contol panel, MTU size is currently 1458. | Vista Home Premium 32-bit & Vista Ultimate 64-bit both Service Pack 2 W7 Pro RTM 7600 32 & 64 | Re: Dial-up on Nildram "broadband"... Check your router configuration page. Under the 'Basic Settings' page, check the entry for 'Encapsulation'. Make sure that this is set correctly, in your case to PPPoA. Also, check your other settings. According to the Nildram website, the settings are as follows: "ADSL Setting Question What ADSL settings should I be using? Answer The basic ADSL settings used in the UK are the following: VPI: 0 (zero) VCI: 38 PPP Type / Encapsulation: PPPoA (PPP over ATM) Framing: VC-MUX Modulations/Mode: G.DMT Nildram usernames are normally in the following format: <username>@gotadsl.co.uk" |
