I want to set a static ip and it works untill I reboot then local access but not internet.
When I try to switch back I have to power down the motherboard to make it change back. Weird AAH! Its like the nic on the m2n32-sli deluxe never releases its memory untill I shut down the power supply manually.

if the ISP do not give u static IP, then suspect it might be a bit difficult to have one ?

local ip address not the same as net ip..

got an xp and vista box connected to the router, it is the external ip address which for me is static and not the internal ip address, could have a MAC and linux box as well and they would have slightly different internal ip addresses

what was the ip address previosuly, in the 123.123.123.xxx format - not need to know the specific ip address ?

I think what you were doing is asking the Router to assign a static IP internal address when setting up a firwall on the router. Especially if you have more than 1 pc connected to the router.

The manual that comes with your router should explain all this if your router settings can be done through a web interface

That's the way I understood it
