Hi Jvt,

Check with Nortel for a updated version of there client...Do you have to use Nortel or can you use any VPN client as there are others with better Vista support?

Hi Dmex
Thanks for your response. Yes I tried to check for updates. But this is the latest vista version they have. There is an updated version for XP. Unfortunately I am stuck to nortel..I am surprised that nobody else is complaining...May be hardly anbody using vista/nortel I guess..

Hi, I just see that you have install nortel client VPN and have no issues so maybe you able to help me.
I have vist home premium and wireless network at home with 2 PC one run on XP and not having any issue with VPN connection but my new PC with vista when connection to my work using Client VPN it give me error saying if I use firewall I need to open UDP port 10000. I did open this port in vista firewall and still no luck so I did turn off firewall and still same issue and unfortunately at work no one have experience with Vista and VPN to help. My understanding is my I can connect on my network using laptop (XP) it mean my router is out of question and it must be something bocking port 10000 inside vista any comments a welcome.

Hi Jp,

Have you tried running Nortel by right-clicking and using "Run as Administrator" ?

My Computer

What do you mean 'right click on nortel'? when I right click you get all the usual staff eg properties etc

Hi Jp,

You should be able to see a menu entry called "Run As Adminstrator"

Most VPN software have there own firewall built in. Try disabling any firewalls you have installed. IE Norton's, Mcafee, Zone Alarm, Microsoft
Had similar issue with Checkpoint VPN. As soon as the firewall was disabled, errors went away.

Theres been plenty of information about Vista since its release 18months ago, Its a shame that company has yet to bother supporting it yet :sarc:

Have you tried turning the Windows Firewall off?

My Computer

Yanno, Steve, this is the second time a user has reported errors with such a high port number.

jpoltora - as the work support group if they can adjust the settings to allow you to come in on a port lower than 10000 and see if it works. If so, then more than likely your Windows firewall needs an explicit rule allowing both incoming and outgoing connections on that particular port....

I work for CSC so no chance they will change the settings, this are global access to CSC so is use by around 70000 employees around the globe. I thought if I turn off the firewall it should let me connected but is not so I just wonder if Vista has additional security settings blocking UDP 10000 in and out traffic.
