Vista can't find DNS

First post here, very nice site with great tutorials, helped me out great!

My problem:
Sometimes my network goes completely down, when I run Diagnostics, it says it can't connect to my DNS, I tell it to fix it, but it can't, then there rests nothing to reset my Router, but it's annoying to change all the settings back the way they were.

I have a Cable Modem from Telenet

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

- Axon

Re: Vista can't find DNS

How did you configure your DNS?
Do you use a Proxy?

Re: Vista can't find DNS

Easiest way is just put the DNS servers into Vista yourself. Check your router settings and make sure DHCP is working properly and your modem's WAN connection sees the DNS entries. Personally, I use static IPs and just enter my ISPs DNS servers manually.

Re: Vista can't find DNS

Hi Axon,

I get this sometimes from my cable broadband provider for this website. You might try what I do and use a Open DNS temporarily until your provider sorts their problem out. I use the Computer option at this site below, but since you have a router, you may need to try the Router option also. Experiment to see what works best, one or the other, or both.

To go back to your default DNS settings from your provider, just dot the Obtain DNS server address automatically option again.

Hope this helps,
Shawn
