Internet is very slow problem

Something is wrong with my internet. Yesterday, my internet was working fine. Today, browsing is very slow and videos won't load. I rebooted my computer and restarted my modem. My ISP is Comcast High Speed Internet. My download and upload speed is very slow too. Is it possible someone could be pinging my ip address? I've noticed, when loading youtube videos, on the bottom left corner, there is an IP address. That ip address has changed, it would normally be 7x xxx xxx but now its 218 xxx xxx, an entire new IP. Can someone please help me?

Call your ISP first to make sure they are not having issues. Comcast could be the problem.

Good idea. My internet is working perfectly now. I had to unplug my modem, wait 30 seconds, and then do the same for the router afterwards. Thanks.

Yep, I called them earlier, they told me to disconnect the modem and the router and reconnect them after 30 seconds which I did. After a few hours, I'm getting the same problem again.

Do it again. My office in NewBuryPort was having similar issues with ComCrap today.

Drop ComCrap. I have Wide Open West and don't have those problems. FiOS is supposed to be incredible on the East Coast.

I've never had this problem up until today and I want to fix it, I don't want to switch ISP's.

Reset the same way as before. If it does not work, call them back.

It didn't work the second time, I'll call them again later and I'll tell you how it goes.

Okay, I called again and he reset my modem, and I had to test my internet with my modem directly connected to my computer and my internet was working fine. With the router it was slow. I had to release my ip and renew it several times and I had to switch the wire to the Ethernet port instead of '2'. So far it's fine but I hope this is permanent so I don't have to call again.

Could be your router firmware needs an upgrade.

I went to Welcome to Linksys.com and searched my routers model number, and I need to know the version number. Instead of "WRT54G version number: #" it just says: "Model Number: WRT54G"

Is there a way to find out my routers version number?

-Edit- I take this back, I have found the version number underneath my router on the sticker.

Open the router configuration. It should be on one of the firmware pages.
