Local Only

i've connected on multiple wireless and corded networks before, but traveling and suddenly i can't connect anywhere, i've tried two corded networks and one wireless, ít always says connected, but 'access local only''
can't copy ipconfig as on different machine in intenet cafe currently

but ipv6 shows wierd address (with letters) and ipv4 looks like a good address.. it shows media state for media disconnected.. but i know it's not the router as it is three different places...

uninstalled my avg software virus and software, was going to do windows update, but since can't get on internet can't do that... help

when i look at connections.. i can see connection to network, but x across network to internet.. i try clicking and it says diagnose, but it doesn't say much

Re: Local Only

Disable and enable your wireless adapter. See if it finds a new network.

Re: Local Only

i can see the networks, i can connect to the networks, but my access is 'Limited' 'Local Only'

i can see that i am sending and receiving packets to and from the network, just can't get out to the internet.

i've uninstalled my avg software, i was able to get connected to a hard wired DSL for a while and ran windows update and checked for updates on my wireless driver, but no luck.. all other networks, still show 'LOCAL ONLY'

Re: Local Only

Are you using a router? If so try resetting it.

Local only means that you only have a network connection minus the Internet.

You might try opening Dos Prompt with Administrative permissions and type

ipconfig /renew and see if that helps.

Re: Local Only

I don't believe it's the router as it is happening in multiple locations.. i think it is something with my computer.

Hey Casey,

Have you checked your laptop manufacturer website for the latest Wireless Device Drivers?

It might be worth trying the System File Check command for any corrupted system components ...System Files - SFC Command
