Wireless Adaptor Won't Work

My son just bought an HP with Vista. I have a computer with a router attached. My wife's computer (2 rooms away) receives via this router as does my son's old computer.

However, to get internet access to his new computer we purchased a LimitOne USB Keychain wireless and it didn't work! Then we went back (thinking the LimitOne wasn't compatible with Vista) and purchased a Buffalo Wireless-G USB adapter for his new machine. It ALSO doesn't work!

I find it hard to believe that two USB adapters don't work! We're both very frustrated as he can't use his machine for anything right now.

Note: both machines are right next to each other right now, so distance should not be an issue.

Should we go exchange the USB adapter for a card?

Any other ideas?

Driver support for Vista and USB network adapters is very poor. I don't know which USB adapter you have but I certainly had a Buffalo USB adapter working with 32-bit Vista, even though it didn't claim Vista compatibility.

My advice would be to exchange the USB adapter for a card or other USB adapter but do some research first - make sure that whatever you buy has some proper released Vista drivers and claimed Vista compatibility. If you have any trouble with it you can ring the company support line and get them to help you with it.

Try the HP support forums and see if you can find other HP owners that have found devices that work.
