Cannot save, open, download or upload!

Can anyone, please, for the love of god, offer me some advice? I cannot save as on any (ANY!) program that I have. This includes programs that came pre-installed when I picked up the notebook (like Wordpad, for christ's sake). Now, I cannot upload or download anything at all.

The dialogue box opens and the hour glass appears. After about five minutes, it informs me that such and such is not responding and the program will have to restart. I recognize that MS has put added percautions in order to prevent piracy. But I cannot even use Wordpad, let alone upload a frickin' video.

Any suggestions are welcome.

I am surprised that someone at MS hasn't been assassinated because of Vista. It is the single worse computer product I have ever (EVER!) used.

Send me an email if you want. Just someone please, shed a light on this.

Hi, metaphizic, and welcome to the forums.

First of all -
I am surprised that someone at MS hasn't been assassinated because of Vista. It is the single worse computer product I have ever (EVER!) used.
that kind of thing is not tolerated. As I have said in many different posts, I have installed Vista many, many times, and it works, it is stable - and I have installed it on a variety of systems, from my current beast (see below) to a Pentium 4 2.0(A) GHz machine with 1 GB RAM and all IDE HDs.

How, as far as not being able to save - how much HD space do you have? Do you have a single partition or more than one? How many HDs?

Have you tweaked your system in any way (startups, services, etc)? What sort of protection software are you using?

For that matter, what are your system specification?

You've given us a lot of rant and very little info other than not being able to save....

ummmmm... okay. I can send my system specs, but they are irrelevant. The fact of the matter is that I have purchased this charming notebook, and because of flaws in Vista (flaws in VISTA!) it is little more than a paper weight. I have reserached this issue for about two weeks now, and I am not the only one with the issue.
As for my "rant"ing, i have spoken the truth. I try to save as, insert an image, upload file, etc and the dialogue box freezes and whatever program I am using forceably restarts. I have installed nothing on the notebook except CS2 and Dreamweaver MX. I have not downloaded a single thing onto the desktop, every file that I work with is on an external drive that is not always connected.
Thanks anyway, johngalt.

My Computer

As with many laptops the manufacturer installs several software programs that can cause conflicts with any OS even XP which was the case for my laptop, I just reformatted and installed XP raw and no problems ever. I just finished building my new machine and installed Vista 64 Home Premium for the first time ever. I have had ZERO issues other than 1 driver problem from an older piece of hardware but because of that hardwares age its to be expected.

Onto your root problem, it sounds like either something in the permissions is locking up or is being worked by another program. My suggestion at this point is to stop pointing the finger at Vista and get your OEM on the phone to find out what programs are all running at the same time you are trying to do this operation (download/upload/etc.). Your OEM should be able to tell you exactly what is installed on the laptop and assist you with indepth troubleshooting on this problem.

So to recap, stop pointing the finger at Vista that bandwagon has left the stage months ago and get your OEM on the phone to support you and that laptop, after all you did pay for the laptop they created you should get the support for the product.

Is there anyone that has been having this issue who is not a MS loyalist? Just need some advice ya'll. Not trying to join up with a cult, nor ruffle any elitist feathers. got practical problems and need some advice on surviving within the confines of what amounts to a technological monopoly.

Do you have any mapped drive which are persistent or mapped network shares that are nonexistent or that are currently offline or external drives mapped but not connected ?
If yes, disconnect them / remove them.
If you do not have any "bad" mapped drives, my advise would be to run hijackthis to check for eventual malwares (you can attach the log here) http://download.hijackthis.eu/HJTInstall.exe

My Computer

Did you not read my post? I do not think you did, Vista could or could not be the issue here. Have you contacted your OEM for help? When did anyone in this topic claim to be an MS loyalist? Because I am not a " MS Loyalist " or as some would call it a fanboi. Do I use the product yes, do I preach it as being the "GOD" of operating systems, no. It works for me does what I need and thats good enough for me.

Now, you came to this forum for help, we are giving you advise on what to do and all you can do is offer a crass response of " Does anyone who isn't a MS Loyalist want to help me? " How about you open your eyes see we ARE trying to help you.

If you want to just start arguments or debate the OS itself please seek that out elsewhere. This forum is here to help and be helped, but you have to be willing to be helped first.

this seems to work: start, programs, accessories, right click on command prompt and select open as administrator, type sfc/scannow, and wait. It preforms its scan, and I can use a dialogue box for one instance (I can open or insert or upload one time only), and then it is non responsive, forcing me to restart, thereafter. It never fails the first time after the scan, but bombs every other time.
Is this a DOS issue or perhaps, a manufacturer issue?

I am going to take each suggestion to heart, and I apologize for giving offense. This is phrustratin', is all. Hopefully, I'll eventually have the luck with it that ya'll seem to be having. Not yet, though.
