| vista home premium 32bit | TCP High Performance Test Failed Please help, Ive tried everyone -Netgear support, DSLzoneUK, Tiscali forums and posted on here with no reply! I have ran the Microsoft conectivity test many times on my new Netgear DG834G V4(firmware v5.01.09) and it fails on the TCP high performance test(see screenshot attached) I like my Vista tweaks and always had it set to highlyrestricted with my old Tiscali standard Siemens SE587 receiving speeds of over 7Mb on a 8Mb connection almost everyday. Some of my DSLzone forum buddies have said that theirs passes the test but why does mine fail. I have asked Netgear support and they cannot tell me whether this router supports this feature or not....what a joke! here is the link to the connectivity test for all routers but you must use Internet Ezplorer; http://www.microsoft.com/windows/usi...d/default.mspx Please try and solve this mystery for me. I have just recovered my system recently and it still fails the test so its not my computers set-up. Thanks for any assistance. ![]() I will try and attach it seperately this time. | vista home premium 32bit | Re: TCP High Performance Test Failed Hi John, thanks for the reply, Ive tried everywhere! I have everything disabled now including "auto-tuning" I got the same results as mentioned above when I had it enabled so I am not sure what it could be? I have not reset my router though but found no need as I have only changed the MTU in it. I may reset it this week and will post back if something changes. Can I ask; Is that test in which my router failed definitely Auto-Tuning?? Im just curious? If you think of anything then please advise, Its time for bed unfortunately. I will try again tommorow with and without auto-tuning disabled. Thanks John. |

| vista home premium 32bit | Re: TCP High Performance Test Failed sorry, what I meant to ask was; does that test indicate that "AUTO-TUNING" is not supported or is it some other Vista tweak? like ECN or RSS that is not supported? thanks. |

| Vista Ultimate x64 MAK, OpenSolaris 5, Gentoo 2008.1.... | Re: TCP High Performance Test Failed Auto Tuning is supported by Vista - but changing the MTU in your router amounts to not allowing Vista to use auto tuning - reset your router to defaults and try the test and you should be golden. |

| vista home premium 32bit | Re: TCP High Performance Test Failed Thanks John, I see what you mean and will follow your advice as instructed tommorow as it sounds correct, BUT Im sure some of the boys over here will be in total disagreement simply because we all have out MTUs set in our routers and them guys(with the same router) all pass the test! I personally hope your right mate and it is the MTU causing the problem and I wont be surprised if you are. Thanks for your assistance mate and I will post back tommorow on the results. Anthony. |

| Vista Ultimate x64 MAK, OpenSolaris 5, Gentoo 2008.1.... | Re: TCP High Performance Test Failed Look at it this way - if *everything* in Vista is default and *everything* in the router is default and it does not work, then your boys are right - which means you need to look at your ISP. If any of you all share the same ISP, package and live in the same neighborhood, then you have to figure out why this only happens to you. however, I have a feeling it is either the router (try exchanging it for a new one) or your ISP. |

| vista home premium 32bit | Re: TCP High Performance Test Failed HI John, good point man! I was thinking something similar to this myself! why is it only happening to me! as you said. ah sod it Im resetting the router right now! Oh, "try exchanging it for a new one" erm; bad subject that one mate lol, this is the 3rd one. The first time I ordered the Thomsons 585v7 but lost loads of sync, so I asked them to replace it for a Netgear(same model as now) and it was not functioning properly - the power supply was faulty and was pretty dangerous, the router would flash on and was shorting! This is the third one. |

| vista home premium 32bit | Re: TCP High Performance Test Failed Hi John, No joy Im afraid, I reset it to defaults firstly within the user interface - this did not work so I reset fully using the reset switch on the back of the router and setting back up via the installation CD! I accept your theory that it could be related to the ISP but I used to pass the test with my ISP issued Siemens router??? I can say for sure on Friday because this is when my line changes over to my new ISP. Thanks John, when I get home from work later today I shall investigate further. -Anthony |

| vista home premium 32bit | Re: TCP High Performance Test Failed Hi john, I ran the tests again after the router reset this morning and its still failing! Auto -tuning was set to =normal. So I set Auto-Tuning=disabled and no change unfortunatly, still - not supported! I am more confused now as one of my friends who says it works on his system has exactly the same router(NetgearDG834Gv4 + same firmware) and surprisingly the same ISP -Tiscali UK. Although another friend says its not a very reliable test as he has had some results that he knows for certain are wrong from the test. But its so consistent! when I use my old Siemens it passes the test and when I plug this Netgear in it fails. I dont think I will ever figure it out, hopefully as a long shot the change of ISPs on Friday may provide something? Another point though where my setup differs from the other guys is the fact that I am doing a Broadband monitoring survey for a popular UK broadband info site that involves a Linksys router/monitoring unit being connected all the time through ethernet to my router! Its collecting stats on UK ISPs and monitoring performance. All it is - is a Linksys WRT54GL with different firmware connected to my router! Could this cause a problem? I know it runs a test every 10 or 20 mins to test things such as Latency, download speeds, web-site/page load times. I dont think this could interfere with TCP performance but I am a Noob so... Could you take a look at the screen-shot again that I will post in the next post and jusr read over it again and varify that it is TCP that its saying is not supported?? because if you read the whole paragraph it mentions scaling?? possibly RSS side scaling? if you get time that is. Thanks again John. -Anthony. |
