Re: Vista & Xp dual boot connection problems

Hi, BuzzFuzz, and welcome to the forums.

Are your connections configured identically, or as close to being identical as possible?

Are you using just the modem, or a router as well?

Re: Vista & Xp dual boot connection problems

That is weird - you reboot the computer from one OS to another and the connection does not work in either OS - until you reset the modem. However, if you reboot and remain in the same OS, it works?

Re: Vista & Xp dual boot connection problems

OK, boot into each OS, open a cmd window, and run the following command:

Code:
ipconfig /all
Make a screenshot of the window (make the window larger if it scrolls off the screen, as seeing it all would help immensely) and paste both screen shots....

Re: Vista & Xp dual boot connection problems

Hmmm - both are set to manually assigned IP address - try disabling IPv6 and see if that has an effect or not.

Re: Vista & Xp dual boot connection problems

OK, so it goes AWOL when you reboot - meaning the modem for some reason doesn't realize it is the same computer just a different OS, even though the MAC address is the same.

2 options:

1) Buy a decent router to eliminate the problem, or
2) call your ISP and bug them about the problem - might be a modem setting that only they can change.
