| Newbie | Vista laptop can see XP desktop but not connect I have a new laptop with vista and a desktop with XP and connected to that an EPSON printer. The network map in vista can see the XP desktop and the printer, but I cannot access the files on the desktop or print to the printer. Strangely I have actually done it once, I haven't changed anything, only switched off the computers at night. Its over a wireless network. I have set all the settings on vista etc. Anyone know what the problem is? |

| Antidisestablishmentarian | Re: Vista laptop can see XP desktop but not connect Hi, simonneal, and welcome to the forums. There seems to be a lot of issues with Vista and XP and connectivity, so the first place to start is making sure both computers are using the same work group as well as having the same username and password on both machines. Is this the case? |

| Newbie | Re: Vista laptop can see XP desktop but not connect Yes I have made sure both are in the same workgroup, I have added the patch to XP to make the computer visible on the vista network map, switched off IPv6 on the vista laptop. I have made sure that Norton on the vista sees the XP computer and trusts it. I have even switched off firewalls on both pcs to no effect. Any other advice would be gratefully received? Its really frustrating me now |
