Vista - Recently slow internet vista ultimate

I know this may have been done to death, but I've searched and tried all I can and now I'm stuck.

I've had vista for around 10 months and never really had a problem with the internet but in the last week I've noticed it is running really slowly. No explaination it just runs slow, really slow. I have AVG, stopped running that, I've rolled back recent windows updates, I've done a system restore to last week. My network card has a greyed out rollback button so can't do that.

Also I've ran some speed tests and I get around 250k download and a 690k upload which again is strange, but I've ran the same test on a eeePC running linux and a laptop running XP and get 1mb download with a 690k upload.

Any advice, please it has become unworkable and as a web developer I really need it.

Try booting into safe mode with networking and testing your speed there, that will give you an indication of if you have something software related slowing you down.

If after you do that you still have an issue with speed you can do a winsock reset which can help with speed issues sometimes.

Open command prompt, type in "netsh winsock reset" hit enter, then type exit and restart the computer.

Give those a shot and let us know how it goes.

When you logged into Safe Mode, what were your speeds? Have you run extensive malware scans (not just the AVG you have installed but also online scans)? Finally, are you connected wirelessly or via wire? Have you tried to *update* the NIC driver as opposed to rollback?

Hi, yeah I've ran a number of scans in both safe mode and normally, I've used CCleaner and spyware and anti virus nothing has been detected.

I'm connected via a cable but I've tried wireless and get the same speed if not a little slower. When I go to update my drivers for the card it tells me i have the most up-to-date.

When you connected by wire, did you disabled the wireless? Just want to make sure it was actually using the wired connection and not the wireless / not hybridizing the two together....

Also, have you 'tweaked' your system in anyway, such as service tweaking, TCP/IP stack tweaking, connection tweaking, etc?
