Slow Internet and Vistax32 after a while...

sup dude, I have the same problem, well, sort of, when i start up everything is fine but after about 20-40 minutes the Internet starts to slow down until eventually there is no connection but none of my programs have trouble running after that...:sarc:.
I dunno what has gone wrong but I'm starting to get really pissed off and spend most of my time in ubuntu instead, which has no trouble connecting and doesn't loose any speed which means it isn't anything to do with my ISP.....
SOMEONE PLZ HELP ME!!!

Hello Otdrummer and johngalt,

Thanks for reply.

I already checked for malware/spyware/viruses with AVG. Nothing found.
I shall try your links for scanning malware on my PC.

Hi Mystericus,

Have you run the Memory Diagnostics Tool? (Start > Administrative Tools > )

Do you always run the Torrent client? What happens if you disable it?

Oh, did this problem start after you did a Windows Update? Why didn't you say so?
We're not mind readers! Watch out, Mystericus, you'll get a reputation as a time waster!

Windows Update problem, huh? Have you tried uninstalling in turn each of the updates you did just before the problem developed, to see if that cures it? Watch out, Mystericus, you'll get a reputation for being lazy!

If you want experts to help you, 'phone your local computer store, and make sure you have a wallet full of cash. We're just fellow-sufferers, who've had similar problems, offering suggestions based on what did it for us!

I naively assumed you'd made some effort to solve your own problem - you know, done the obvious - but it hadn't worked, so were turning to the forum for some not-so-obvious ideas.

I'm beginning to realise why no-one was offering help. I won't make that mistake again either!

try checking task manager > processes tab
then look to see if you have a process that is consuming high amounts of memory.

sounds like a process might be hanging which can cause your system to grind.

you could also try looking through your event logs to see if anything unusual is being logged.

I'm far from a Vista Guru, but I AM a tech that has to support PC's running Vista 32 and 64..... from that list of stuff running on the PC in question, I did notice "ZA"......
With Vista you get a good bi-directional Firewall, SO, there is NO reason at all to run a resource hog like the ZoneAlarm firewall.

Laptops don't run very efficiently anyway and then when you load them down with needless programs running in the background, they run even worse.

A part of my setup procedure for Vista is to disable 22 UN-Needed services that normally run in the background. Then I tweak the registry to increase ram efficiency with the OS.

Look at your Startup folder in MSCONFIG and disable any Reminders, Schedulers, or Updaters that may have been installed there by programs you've installed or updated. Java, Real Player and Quick Time are examples of programs that install stuff in your Startup Folder. Remove them from there.

If you install an update and then notice problems, use the System Restore feature to 'GO BACK' to before the update and see if that solves the problem. Often it will!:geek:

These internet forums are full of tutorials on "How to get the best performance from your PC". I've written a few myself.;)

Good Luck,
The Shadow

good post 'theshadow'
I'm new to vista, one quick question for you. Can you turn off password bank? I see it runs an .exe though I couldn''t track down a service name

My Computer

I notice that your computer is NOT speaking English. ???

Anyway, I'm going to claim ignorance as to "Password Blank".
I've never heard of it and it's NOT on my Vista PC.

If you can shut it down.....DO IT !!!
What could it hurt?
I did not see it on that list of things that are running, which you posted at the beginning of this thread.

good luck,
The Shadow
