Not Recognizing Network

I am connected to a home network. I have complete internet access and I can access files on other computers manually not via the GUI. My Network magic recognizes the network, it is on my computer from a previous network setup. However, I cannot get Vista to recognize that I am connected to the network or internet. If I were to go in to network and sharing right now it would show no connection and say it can not detect a network.

I am a member of the work group. The automatic network discovery is now off though it was on not too long ago and did not have any affect on the situation. It seems to go on and off of its own accord. It seems to ignore me when I try to turn it on. I choose the radial next to on then click apply and nothing happens.

Now, at the same time if I disable my LAN then Enable it Vista recognizes that it is connected to a network. However while it is trying to identify the network it stops and goes back to showing no network and not being able to find a network to connect to.

Any ideas cause I've worn myself out trying to figure this out. I won't be surprized if I've merely overlooked something simple.

Thanks,

Hi, Atsivx64U, and welcome to the forums.

You should first and foremost check to make sure that the network card is properly updated with the latest drivers (you'll probably need a blank CD to burn them to disc from another computer with Internet access to get them from your motherboard / computer's manufacturer's website.

Also, some more detailed information about the Vista computer such as system specifications would be helpful.
