Vista - I lose internet connection when I resume from sleep mode

Hi

I've searched here for this problem, and it seems that others have had it as well.

I just got a new PC and it's running Vista. Each time I put it into sleep mode, when I come back, I have no wireless internet. I can either reboot or unplug the wireless receiver, either work, but it's a pain

Repair/diagnose does NOT work

For what it's worth, I had another PC, less than a year old, and it does the exact same thing. I just assumed that the old one was just wierd and my solution was to not put it into sleep.

We do have a hard wired one, it does NOT lose connection when in sleep mode. My internet comes back just fine upon unplugging the receiver/replugging it.

I have tried the solution I found..by unchecking the 'allow the system to put this device to sleep'..that did not work

I don't know what other info you need.

Oh, and the PC's are pretty DISSIMILAR in what they have on them for hardware, which leads me to believe it's a Vista thing. They don't even have the same spyware stuff..

any suggestions are welcome

Go to your device manager and go to the universal serial bus controllers and check your usb power options to not turn off device to save power and try that.

I found the device manager and the USB's but how do I change the power options?

I figured it out partially

some of the USB's do have the "power management' tabs

The wireless one does have the box that says 'allow system to put this device to sleep' UNCHECKED

I have the box that says 'allow device to wake the system' checked

The others, I cannot do that

If they even have 'power management' tab, either I can ONLY check the 'allow system to put this device to sleep, or nothing.

Go to the power options click change plan settings for the selected power option and then click on change advanced power setting then look for wireless adapter settings and see if that is at maximum then usb setting and make sure its at disabled and try that.

Done.

Wireless says "maximum performance'

and USB says disabled.

I've read thru a lot on here, and I just don't GET it

BOTH Pc's do this, it's not my internet, my XP hardwired PC is fine..

Only thing else I can tell you is not to put your computer to sleep because I have the same problem too.

That is what I did with my old one, but it had a GREAT cooling system

The new one gets so warm that I get a bit paranoid

I know that I *can* leave it perpetually on, I just prefer not to
