Internet Explorer runs sooo slooow on some sites, fine on others :(

Hi folks,

I am hoping that you can shed some light on this problem. I am running Vista32 Home Premium. I already have half an idea that it has to do with all the antivirus and antispyware progs that I have installed, but i can't figure out which bits i need to turn off:cry:

These are the progs I am running and their current state(s):

-NOD32 Antivirus 3.0 (Retail subsription version with antispyware and Realtime Protection enabled)

-Spyware Terminator 2.3 (Freeware version with Immunity, HIPS, Web Security Guard and Realtime Protection enabled)

-Spybot Search + Destroy 1.6 (Freeware version with Immunity, Resident Browser Helper and Tea Timer enabled)

-Spyware Blaster (Freeware version with all protection enabled)

-Windows Defender (I turned it on manually)

-Windows Firewall (Has always been on, despite also having a hardware firewall in my Ske Netgear router)

-Netgear Router Hardware Firewall (Stuck with it, as SKY force you to use this Router)

There's probably some conflicts in there somewhere, but i'm not that Tech-savvy.
Some sites get stuck loading and some load instantaneously. Others take about 30 secs to load!

Any help would be appreciated, although i won't be back online until tommorow night.

CHEERS:D

what you need to know is whe the network is slow? what time of day? 2-3 5-7 whatever the time is. once you know that what type of internet connection are you using DSL or Cable (I am assuming you would not be complaining about slow if you where dialup or low priotery VPN) I do not know why you are running a hardware and software firewall turn off the software one and windows defender.

back to the SLOW problem if it is DSL get use to it because there is nothing you can do. is you have a 1.5 mbps line it just means the segment you are on gets 1.5mbps and you share it with the other 100 subscribers in the area this means the area has slow internet when people are home and more of your neibors are on the internet. If you have DSL it depends on what the ISP is giving you but it can tange from 1.5 mbps to I think 5mbps I could be a little off there too. slow does not have a lot to do with all of that on dsl anyway because the speed is always going to be controled by the slowest link between you and the amorphious cloud ( internet) which is the link between you and the DSL company (your POTS line). bandwith is the measurment of how much traffic on a network can be pushed through a given line at a time. this verys from cable type to cable type and is usually not the problem. nope my friend if you are on DSL and are slow im afrade it is all about the other crap going on. what about windows live myspace im ICQ AIM and all the other messengers out there also lime wire kazza lite and utorrent and al the other torrent based and standard P2P sharing servers. yes my friend these are all bandwith stealers. try to meld as many of these into one as you can, like AIM IQC MSN and yahoo can all be run in one program called trillian. then you do not need all the messengers. also try to clean out the cash dor the DNS get instructions on that from google. and if all else fails drown the computer in a pool of gasoline and throw it into a fire.

also if you still need one in the TCPIP settings switch the DNS to openDNS.com there info is on the bottom of the page and it is a fast secure connection. hope all this helps

Sigh.

Have you bothered to read any reviews at all? NOD32 is *consistently* rated as the best AV for Vista and XP. ***consistently***

Just because you use AVG and it is free doesn't mean a thing. Please don't advise people to remove their own AV solutions without ascertaining why they are using it in the first place - some people actually *do* pay for really good products - because they work.

Crispy, if you enabled Defender manually, disable it - you have conflicting software running simultaneously, and that is going to hurt your performance. Also, noting what times of day this occurs (or even if it is random, need to know_ and if it is always certain sites or only certain sites at certain times, etc.

Obviously as you stated in the title, some sites are slow and some are fast - a list of different sites would be helpful - if we all experience slowness at those same sites, then it is obviously not your fault .

well i did not mean to step on anyones toes. I appoligize I do not see the point but that is just me!! one thing , well actually one of a lot of things, I mentiond that you did not touch on is the software firewall VS the hardware firewall. I am curious about your feeling on this issue and rather or not in the future I am allowed to poin out the vast superiority of MOST hardware firewalls, and the redundency of overlaping them for no good reason. also in the event that someone on here uses a crappy AV can I say something then or just keep my mouth shut unless they spsificly ask. if they do ask am I allowed to say something then or is that a moderators job, sorry I do not know I am new to the site. if it is a moderators job what do I have to do to be a moderator. who do I send my A+ Net+ certs to or do I need them, to I need to have finished my BA in computer science first or is it ok I am in the process. just a question. just because I am new to the site does not mean I am stupid and FYI on other forums moderators who have a issue with a user ask them to edit in private and do not call them out. that is what PM is for
