Vista - network slow text file transfer

When I transfer a 4-6 GB file, I get about 10-13MB/s. When I try to transfer a 200 MB folder full of plaintext source code, it slows to a crawl 400-800KB/s. I have RDC uninstalled and autotuning disabled. is this a well known issue, and if so is there a fix.

How many files totaling 200 MB? If it is several hundred files then that is going to be the root of the problem....

Also, do you have an antimalware product installed with realtime scanning enabled? If so, that is going to multiply the effect, as it is going to scan each file as it is accessed, then again as it is copied to the new location, thereby severely slowing your throughput.

Ya, it's a plethora of files, and I have norton 08. I had suspected it was because of the high volume of files, but wasn't sure.

That is only a guess, but an educated guess from personal experience.

Try disabling Norton and seeing if that increases the speed - but still with the high number of files it won't achieve what you get on that one file....
