ie and chrome installer internet connectivity problem

HI,

I am new to vista. I recently got a HP machine loaded with vista home. It has two IE - one is x86(32bit) and second is 64bit. My 32 bit works perfectly. I have mozilla also which also work great but IE 64bit is not able to connect to internet and diagnose problem also doesn't do anything meaningful. Is there a way i can make 64 version to work? I googled it for last 2 days but no luck yet.

Actually i realized this problem when i was trying to install google chrome and installed could not connect to internet even although i switched off my firewall. Then i found offline installer and after installing chrome..it can't connect to internet and when i checked out connection properties then it seems it inherit it from ie(64 bit) which is not working.

I will be really thankfull if someone can please help me.

Warm regards

Hi,

Thanks for the quick response. I have been searching around inter for couple of days now and have tried most of the solutions including internet property reset, modem reset, firewall access ..even i disabled firewall and anti virus uninstallation etc.

And above all i spoke with microsoft support also .. sopprt guy was very supportive but somehow couldn't solve the problem and he referred me to their research team. And a lady from their so called reserch team tried to give me completely illogical explanation instead of solving my problem. Anywas,

I think the root of this problem is not just ie8. Actually, i got this machine from HP with visa 64 home loaded. And this vista installation has following two program files folder under c:\ drive.

1) C:\Program Files (x86) - I guess 32 bit.
2) C:\Program Files - and this one is 64 bit.

Each folder had their own ie7 installation along with two short cuts in my start menu. One which was called IE was pointing out to "C:\Program Files (x86)\Internet Explorer" and was working fine.

And otherone which was called ie(64 bit) was pointing out to "C:\Program FilesInternet Explorer" and was not working and had the same connection problem.

so to solve that problem i install ie8 vista64 and now both short cut point to it and it is not able to connect to internet. But mozzila can do and i have no clue why?

Plese do suggest if someone has any idea.

Warm Regards

I have a similar problem. I also have an HP that came pre-loaded with Vista Home Premium, though mine is 32 bit. I tried to install Chrome, but it kept failing, so I disabled Windows Firewall - still failed, so I downloaded the complete installer (ie Chrome_Installer.exe), and that installed ok, but I can't connect to the internet using Chrome, just get -- Error 104 (net::ERR_CONNECTION_FAILED): The attempt to connect to the server failed -- even though my net connect is fine and I can browse using IE.

Another strange thing is that when I apply some Windows security patches using Windows update, even IE won't connect to the internet. I have to unistall some security patches in order to get IE working again.

I hope someone has a suggestion...

Thanks the first think what i tried but same issue. And above all if i am right - if you will try to install anything from notmal account, vista will ask you admin password and that's it. you should be able to install anything at all.

My Computer

Unfortunately, I did install as an administrator account, so no joy there. I recently tried to intsall Google Desktop with gadgets, and it too cannot connect to the net - yet I can still browse and internet access works fine otherwise. I'm beginning to think Vista is sabotaging Google apps ;-)

Any suggestions are most welcome...
