Problems connecting Sony to Mitsubishi HD TV via VGA extension cable

I've tried various things and I'm unable to get a picture using my laptop on my Mitsubishi tv. I have VGA PC monitor replacement cable that I've hooked up to my laptop and the VGA port on the back of my tv. I've set the device on my tv to a 'VGA' device. On my laptop I've set the display to extend the desktop on my computer.
I've tried various resolutions and hertz (normally setting to 60mhz) but to no avail. I still get a black screen. I have no idea why this is not working.
Can someone help me out please. Oh by the way, when my tv is on, sometimes, I receive a warning to set my screen saver. But, I can't get anything to show up on the tv from my laptop.

Do you have your display setting for the monitor set to the second monitor.

Yes, I do, it works fine with another external monitor I have, it just won't work with the tv.

Take it you have restarted you computer.

Does you graphics card have a control panel besides what windows has.

Have you tried where it says notebook and monitor and just have monitor selected.

I'm sorry, I don't understand what you mean when you say: where it says notebook and monitor and just have monitor selected

Is that in the DISPLAY settings (if so, I don't see any mention of it there).

  1. Click Start.
  2. Click Control Panel.
  3. Click Appearance and Personalization, and then Personalization (or click Classic View, and then double-click on Personalization).
  4. Click Display Settings.
  5. Click Advanced Settings.
  6. Click the Intel Graphics Media Accelerator Driver tab.
  7. Click the Graphics Properties button.
