Cannot print from XP (client) to Vista (host)

Hi all

This appears to be an old chestnut, and despite searching everywhere, I have not been able to resolve the problem.

My PC:
Vista Ultimate 32bit SP 1
HP LaserJet 1020 connected via USB
Network Discovery: On
File Sharing: On
Public Folder Sharing: On (read only)
Printer Sharing: On
Password Protected Sharing: Off
Media Sharing: Off
Workgroup Name: WORKGROUP

My Wife's Laptop
XP Home Edition SP 3
Workgroup Name: WORKGROUP

Both machines have both accounts with matching passwords.

Network browsing is not a problem - folders and files are accessible. However, network printing is proving to be a nightmare!

I have tried to add the printer on the XP laptop as a networked printer and as a local printer using a local port of \\vistacomputer\hp laserjet 1020, but both result in the same problem: the job "seems" to print and can be seen in both computers' printer queues, but nothing outputs. It is only when I stop and restart the spooler on the Vista computer that the job actually prints!

The print$ share can be seen from both computers, so I don't think it's security related.

Does anybody have any other ideas what I can check?

Regards

DG
