WakeOnLan and Remote Desktop Problem

I use Remote Desktop, and thus require WakeOnLan to be enabled. While my office computer (XP) seems to stay asleep unless awoken remotely, my home computer (Vista) wakes up on its own frequently. I've read the tutorial and the only culprit I can identify seems to be WakeOnLan. However, from the tutorial, it wasn't clear to me whether there is a way to prevent WakeOnLan from intermitently waking a computer to refresh network settings. I need to remotely control my home and office comptuers on a fairly regular basis, but I'd like to save on the unproductive energy consumption if possible.

Re: WakeOnLan and Remote Desktop Problem

I'm hoping someone can help me to resolve this issue. It's really annoying, especially, because I've never had this problem with Windows XP.

I tried playing around with the Wake-On-Lan settings for my NIC card. Under "Wake-On-Lan Capabilities" two wake-up options are listed, "Pattern Match" and "Magic Packet". When I select "Pattern Match," I continue to have the same issue (computer won't stay asleep). When I select "Magic Packet" instead, my computer stays asleep, but my network connection appears to disconnect, and I can't access my computer using Remote Desktop.

I'm wondering if there is some way to use Remote Desktop that allows my computer to stay asleep and wake up only when turned on remotely.
