| Vista Ultimate SP2 x64 : Seven Ultimate x64 | Password protect particular shared folder? I have just set up my first ever home network and apart from a few permission hassles (first time I've been really annoyed with Vista), it all seems to be going well. I have the Password protected sharing turned off, however there is one particular shared folder that has a sub-folder I don't want anybody else to access. Is there anyway to protect an individual folder, or at least make it invisible to others, but still be accessible to me? At the moment I'm a little networked over-loaded and am drawing a blank. |

| Windows 7 RC x64 Vista HP x86 | Re: Password protect particular shared folder? Hi smarteyeball, What I would do is set Pasword protected sharing on and set the sharing & security permissions to everything except you private folder to "Everyone", Setting the Private folder's security permissions should then allow you to set View, execute etc permissions on a per user basis. Hope this helps |

| Vista Ultimate SP2 x64 : Seven Ultimate x64 | Re: Password protect particular shared folder? I set the password protection to on, lost track of which permission settings allowed me to connect from the XP based machine (guest was the magic bullet). My username and password weren't being accepted etc... So I swore a little, removed the password protection, managed to restore connectivity and then I cheated. In the end I renamed the folder to something ambiguous sounding and hid in it within a sub-folder of a sub-folder and crossed my fingers, hoping no-one will look there ![]() I think I'll settle for this work around for the time being. This way, I know it works ![]() Thanks for the help Nigel. Last edited by smarteyeball; 10-12-2008 at 07:23 AM.. Reason: update |
