so i have a laptop and a PC, i however do not have a cable modem for my PC, but i can hook up wirelessly with my laptop to a nearby router, is it possible to set up internet connection sharing so that i can directly link my laptop to my pc, and use it as my modem. i have tried already and can get the two to share files etc, but haven't been succesfull at all at getting the internet to work,any help would be appreciated, thank you.

It sounds like to me that your desktop needs a wireless card or a wireless usb connection of some sort. If wireless is the way you want to go. With out being physically connected to a modem or router (wired or wireless) you wont get connected to the Internet. Can you show a diagram of what you have and what it is connected to. Nothing to fancy, just some squares and lines showing what you have set up. Then I can say for sure what you have and what you will need.
