| Vista Basic | How do I set up a username a password for the internet? I was just wondering, because I want to stop my brothers from going on the internet without a password and username that I can change. I got this idea from the school computers, but they are Windows XP. Does anybody know if you can do it on Vista Basic? Please help ![]() EDIT: I have found a random picture of the same type of thing on the internet: Last edited by Vista Basic; 11-13-2008 at 12:15 PM.. |

| Windows 7 RC x64 Vista HP x86 | Re: How do I set up a username a password for the internet? Hi vista Basic, and welcome to the vista forums ![]() I assume you are the only administrator on the machine if so make sure your account is password protected and create standard user accounts for each of the other users on the machine. this is a good idea anyway as it lets people customise the setting to their own liking. once you have set up the accounts from the admin accout set up Parental controls for each of the other users - this will allow you to control exactly what programs each user can run and what time they can use the machine - it also allows you to control the access to certain sites - essential if users are young. You can find the parental controls in the Users control panel. Hope this helps - but I do not take responsibility for any family arguments this may cause |

| Vista Basic | Re: How do I set up a username a password for the internet? Thanks for the reply ![]() The thing is, I want it so they can not go on the internet unless i give them the password, instead of blocking certain sites. I hope you can help! |

| Vista Ultimate x64 MAK, OpenSolaris 5, Gentoo 2008.1.... | Re: How do I set up a username a password for the internet? SO, you block the entire Internet. Blocking sites such as * will cover pretty much every thing. However, what you fail to realize is that the setting you see there is monitored by the servers at OSU - you don't have such a server, you have a single machine with a desktop. Inasmuch as you want it to be as easy as it is there, it isn't. |

| Vista Home Premium 32-bit & Vista Ultimate 64-bit both Service Pack 2 W7 Pro RTM 7600 32 & 64 | Re: How do I set up a username a password for the internet? Hi Vista Basic, Have a look at these: Program Protector - Password protect Windows programs and applications and Password protect programs on your computer, add password protection to any program.. Note that I haven't tried either of these, but they would appear to do what you want. One point to note is that if you have the 64-bit version of Vista then only the latter option is viable whereas both options will, however, work with 32-bit Vista (information from their websites). |

| Vista Basic | Re: How do I set up a username a password for the internet? Thank you for all your replies. Johngalt, I see what you mean now. I do not have a server like them, so I cannot do it. BTW, i just found that pic on google so it isn't the school PC's. Thanks Dwarf, I have downloaded one of the applications and they work perfectly |
