Netgear WGRv6 Wireless Router

I have had this router for some time - worked fine with Xp64 - now I've upgraded to Vista 64 Home, it will occasionally lock up.

By that I mean that I can sometimes still see my local network, but I lose internect connectivity. I seems to be at random. But the impression I get is that it is something on the wireless network that is causing it as it seems to be worse if I connect my works laptop to the internet via a wireless VPN connection.

I also have a WB NAS drive connected (Soon to be ditched due to problems with it corrupting files and being extremely slow to extract data) and a Wii (Wireless).

Or can any recommend a ADSL wireless router that works well with Vista? (I have to run the PC and NAS drive with static IP addresses due to the time it takes for the network to connect if I use DHCP)

Thanks

Mark

Hi Nigel,

Funnily enough I looked at that this morning - and it is meant to be compatible- though the setup routine is a beta one, as far as I can see it just sets the PC to be DCHP.

I am convinced though, that there is something up with the router. But which to go for!

Hi mark,

It's always a difficult call, especially with firmware updates

The only way you can really know is to try, but that is not a recommendation :D

All I can suggest is have a look on the forum at the Netgear site and see if you can find anything to lead you to a solution

The other alternative is of course Netgear themselves, an eMail to support may get a reply but do not have enough experience with Netgear support to suggest how likely that would be.

As for a replacement router I use a Belkin G router here with no problems but that's just a personal opinion of one device, so any Vista certified router should be ok

Thanks for the info Nigel. I suspect that I will just get a new router - I've been looking at the Buffalo one as it seems to have all the bits on it. I've actually just bought a Buffalo 1Tb external drive - should come tomorrow - I'll see what its quality is like then make a decision

Hi mark,

Have heard some good things about Buffalo routers lately so could well be a good choice.

Have fun with all that storage :D

Thanks for the headsup - good to know I'm not on the wrong trail!

The external is to replace the WD 1Tb NAS drive I have - which keeps crashing and corrupting files when trying to restore them - didn't find that out until I upgraded to Vista - I have too much data to lose - hence the change - will probably run them both for a bit.

Most of my data is actually photographs - as that is my main hobby!
