Wireless Connection Trouble

Hi,

I have been using my HP dv2000us laptop to connect to the internet wirelessly without trouble until a week ago.

A few weeks ago I brought it over to my boyfriend's house, connected to a local unsecured network, and it was fine. In the last two weeks, I decided to set up a network with his computer so I didn't have to use someone else's wireless. I connected a wireless router to his cable modem, and everything worked fine. The computers joined up like they'd known each other for years. That lasted one day. The next day that connection was lost, and my laptop lost it's ability to connect to other wireless networks also. I can see them in the list, they are of good strength, but when I try to connect, it attempts briefly and just says it can't. The network with his connection may be due to Comcast being finicky, or my wireless router, I suspect I'll be tackling those problems next, but for now I would be happy to have my wireless connection functional again.

I have tried changing settings and restarting, no luck. I have updated the drivers for the wireless adapter, which is a Broadcom 802.11b/g. I rolled back the driver which only seemed to weaken the strength of the available networks. I am nearing the point of insanity trying to figure out what is causing this.

To complicate things, I installed some of the recent windows updates for my computer, both two weeks ago (not sure if the problem was before this or after) and then again in the last day or so. Nothing has helped and I am clueless at this point.

Anyone have any helpful suggestions? Any would be appreciated.

Thanks,

K8
