Remote assistance connection problem

I am attempting to assist someone running Vista Home Premium (sp1). I am running XP pro (sp2). I receive the Remote assistance email from the Vista machine ok but get an error message that a connection can not be established when I try to connect. I can not ping the Vista machine. I am behind a router (with port 3389 forwarded to my XP machine) but the Vista machine is not behind a router. We have tried with firewalls (comodo) disabled.

Any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated.
