Joining to a Vista Network

Have a vista ultimate desktop and would like to create a network so other laptops can connect to it. Did not see in the vista help section how this can be done. This desktop has internet access through an ethernet connection to a wireless router. Ideally, I would want the laptops to connect to the desktop through wireless access but would also want the laptops [XP Pro] to connect to the wireless router throuth ethernet connections for faster speed. Guidance sought

Whatever folder or drive you want to share just right click on it and there should be an option to "share" it with others on your network. You can choose everyone on the network to share desktop files with or certain network users specifically to share folders ,files and drives.

Of course when the desktop sleeps others on the network won't be able to access it. I'm not familiar with XP Pro though. Hope i could help.
