Vista Network Help

Hi. I'm going to try and explain this the best I can. I have been trying to set up a Home network for months now. I have followed directions to a tee from Linksys,D-Link, and Trendnet. All good routers and my modem is also good. I've noticed that I can not get any thing to work when I hit any of the network buttons in Vista. Everything freezes up on me. Also I get an error message saying that I have 2 connections. Problem is how can I repair this? I don't want to have to reinstall everything. In all the other versions of Windows you can put the CD in and Repair. Seems like you can't do that in Vista. I want to be able to repair it if that is possible. My deskstop is wired and my 2 laptops are wireless. This is driving me crazy.

Hello Nucello, Have you tried downloading (LELA) Linksys easylink advisor? Lots of options and help! Also linksys tech support is great. Good luck-

Yes I have tried LELA it comes with the router. My problem is this. In Network and sharing the only things that are turned on is file sharing and printer sharing. Everything else is off. I can't turn anything else on because screen freezes.

Thanks Larry D. but as I stated before. I have tried 3 different routers. (1) Linksys WRT110 (2)D-Link DI-524 (3) TRENDnet TEW-652BRP. I firmly belive that they are not the problem. Nor do I believe (LELA) is the problem. My wired computer is a Dell Dimension E520. It came loaded with Windows XP. I upgraded it to Windows Vista Home Premium. I have one laptop with the same OS and another with XP Pro. I'm thinking maybe there is a compatability problem somewhere because it seems like every single time I go to Network and sharing #1 it takes forever to load the page then it just freezes. So you can't touch anything. I'm fed up with all these tech people from Micrsoft, Dell ,so on and so forth. I haven't uninstalled Vista basically because I have alot of stuff on this computer. I forgot to tell you that the laptop that has Vista on ,Network and sharing works fine.

nuccello, Have you tried removing lela from your start ups? then reboot? Does the laptop use lela also? I am surprised you are not receiving more help from this board. Maybe someone will come along to help. I could be wrong but i did not see the wrt110 listed as compatible with vista?

Larry D thanks again. I think I'm not getting thru to you or anyone else for that matter. My fault!!! I have uninstalled all networking stuff. Now it seems to me that you all are into Linksys/Cisco. My preferred choice is Trendnet ok, that's just me. So on that point LELA is of no concern to this problem. I'm thinking that Vista is The Problem. Like I said my main computer (wired) is a Dell Dimension E520.Could that be the problem? Is it compatible with Vista?

Have you taken a look at the link i posted? Seems the problems are simular ? If you are asking if the e520 is ok with vista os the answer is yes.

I think I have found the problem. I am connected but I have 2 connections. Go figure. What I don't know is how to disable or disconnect one. Any help there would be greatly appreciated.

right click your connection icon at the bottom of you notification area, next to clock. A window will open, network and sharing window. In the left pain, far left, the manage network connections under task, click it and that will show you your network connections. Then high light the connection, (click on the connection) you want, then you can disable repair or delete. To delete connection right click and select delete. good luck
