Java JRE 1.6.11_b03 makes IE7+DEP crash

Please,
if you're interested in solving a severe Java bug that makes IE7 crash when its DEP feature is enabled (as Admin, only to enable it: Tools>Internet Options>Advanced>Security>Enable memory protection to help... ), (e.g. test page: http://www.java.com/it/download/help/testvm.xml ), register and vote for this bug: http://bugs.sun.com/bugdatabase/view_bug.do?bug_id=6545701

why are you using 6u11 b03? I thought 6u11 final was out, because *I* am using 6u12 b02....

I downloaded and installed that version 2 weeks ago from Java.com. There's been a new update?

Veryifing my version at Java.com says I'm up-to-date.
Please can you cut & paste what "java -version" from command prompt says for you?
For me it is:
java version "1.6.0_11"
Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.6.0_11-b03)
Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (build 11.0-b16, mixed mode, sharing)

How do I update?
If I go on www.java.com and check version it says it's ok and I don't need to install a newer version.
Please can you cut & paste your "java -version" output?

I can't cut and paste it as it is on a different machine - this machine is currently using Windows 7 for testing purposes.

However, if you'll give me about 30 min I can install 6U11 and see that the output is...

I usually just install the JDK as it installs the JRE - would you prefer is I install the JRE alone first and post outputs from both? Or just install the JDK and post output?

Strange. But I have seen that more than once....having installed a beta release sometimes the updater is late by over a week to notify me of a new version....

But did you test IE7 with DEP enabled + your Java version (e.g. Test della Macchina virtuale Java - 1.4.2_xx, 1.5.0, 6.0 )? Does it still force IE7 to close?
I doubt they'll ever fix it. IE8 will be be probably released before, and Java runs fine even with DEP enabled on IE8.

Technically, no, but I always have IE and DEP enabled....

I have the latest 6u11 JRE installed, but this is Windows 7 with IE 8 (Beta).

Oops, silly me - I installed the 64bit JAVA JRE so I don't have the 32bit IE 8 with the plugin - let me go back and now install the *32bit* JRE...

java build 1.6.0_11-bo3 is the latest java for vista. And I have never had a problem with IE DEP enabled and java.

My IE7 certainly crashes if I visit that page. Have a try.

I stand corrected. But it only crashes if I sign in to IE as admin.

The bug is for sure: there is also an open bug in the Sun DB at Bug ID: 6545701 Java plugin triggers Data Execution Prevention (DEP) in 32-bit IE7 on 64-bit Vista

To reproduce it you must have IE7, Java enabled and IE7's DEP enabled (run IE7 as admin one time, just to enable this normally ghosted option): Tools>Internet Options>Advanced>Security>Enable memory protection...

The problem has been finally solved starting from 6u12b03: http://download.java.net/jdk6/

It's now possible to enable DEP in IE7 without problems.
