SO frustrated with P5NSLI and/or Vista 64 -- NO NETWORK!

Problem: No networking. Nothing. Can not ping router, dns, other IP's, etc.

The whole reason I upgraded to Vista Home Premium 64 was so that I can use the now 4+ gigs of ram I have (for some virtualization stuff I do) and mess with DirectX 10.

Anyway, vista installed flawlessly. The only only device that didn't install in the device manager was the ACPI (or whatever it's called) from the motherboard.

Here are my specs (I'm at work now so forgive me if I miss anything).

ASUS P5NSLI motherboard
Intel Dual Core 2.13Ghz cpu
4 gigs ddr2 ram
GeForce 7300 GT (MSI 9800GT will be installed this evening)
Onboard Yukon NIC 10/100/1000
Intel Pro 1000 GT network (PCI)
Router: WRT54G

For 2 whole days I have tried to get online using either of those network card. I have tried the following:

1) one card at a time (when intel card was in, the yukon was disabled in bios)
2) newest and oldest BIOS
3) newest and oldest firmware to router
4) Confirmed 64bit drivers for both nics (according to manufacturer's website)
5) Confirmed 64bit drivers for motherboard
6) Turned off IPv6
7) DHCP and static ip/gateway/dns on both nics
8) Disabled firewall

Plus, I have confirmed the following information:

1) The device manager is clean. No problems.
2) The device manager reports both nics are working properly.
3) On the Intel nic, I have run the diagnostic utilities that come with it. Testing of hardware all succeded. The hardware appears to be in working order.
4) BOTH network cards work just fine with XP 32bit.
5) Cable / router / port work just fine with XP 32bit.
6) Router is working and internet is confirmed with router.

No matter what I do, I can not reach anything outside the localhost. I can not ping the router. I can not ping other machines or anything past the router. The DHCP table on the router shows nothing from the vista machine.

At this point I can't tell if it's the motherboard (which includes the Yukon nic), the intel nic, software or a mixture of all of the above. I can't keep buying motherboards and nics in hopes that I get a winning combo.

This is insane. I don't even know who to blame. MS, Asus or Intel. (or ME for not being smarter).

Any clues at all? Am I fighting a loosing battle?

Has ANYONE connected to the internet with Vista 64 Home Premium using an ASUS P5NSLI motherboard? If so, what nic did you use?

HELP!?!?!?!?!

Thanks

"cbmeeks" I have the exact problem.
Our sistems are similar in mb and CPU wise.
I found various threads that, for our motherboard, stated the Marvel Yukon as the culprit, so I got out and bought the same Intel Nic like you did. But unfortunately in spite of all of my efforts ( which were similar to yours ) i am unable to connect to the internet. So, did you find a solution to your problem ?
It's been more than 4 days of futile attempts to get a connection, and i am extremely frustrated.

No, I never got it to work. I spent 3 days myself. I finally took Vista off and went back to XP 32bit. So, I just have wasted memory in my computer.

I might try Windows 7 but not until it's released out of BETA.

But honestly, I will probably just go with Ubuntu.

Good luck.

The Marvell NIC onboard has an issue where it won't work properly if you have 4+ GB RAM installed. I've looked ALL over the internet for a solution. There is none. This is a hardwired problem on the board. Only solution if you want 4+GB RAM is to add in a network card and disable the onboard NIC.

I have already disabled the on-board NIC and put a Intel Pro 1000 Gt instead, with the same results. After 4 gb of Ram no internet. And this is happening in xp and vista also.
So my bet is a Mb issue. ( me not being an "connaisseur"). What do you think ?
