| Vista Ultimate x64 | vista x64 vs xp x86 networking issue Hi there all! I've got a pretty simple network at home. Two PC's, a Linksys WRT54GS router and an ADSL modem connected via ethernet cables. Internet works fine on both computers but file sharing not quite well. I am able to reach the contents of shared folders by IP, using form "\\192.168.1.xxx" or "\\computername" but I cannot see the computers in Network window. I have installed LLTD on computer runs xp. I also have got the lastest service packs (vista: SP1, xp: SP3) and the latest updates installed on both computers. This 64 bit vista is newly installed, because of new hardwares (mobo, cpu, ram). I used a 32 bit version before and the sharing stuff worked fine. XP system is the same, I did not touch it except LLTD. Both computer belongs to the same workgroup. Of course in vista I have enabled File sharing, Network discovery and Public folder sharing. I have set a Private Network. So my problem briefly is that I can access other computer's content by typing IPs or computer names in Run dialog box, but I cannot see them (only local computer) in Network window. Things I have tried so far: I have enabled NetBIOS over TC/IP on both computer (I've got DHCP disabled in my router, so I use static IPs) For some suggestions I have set Network Address for network adapter to "HOME" (It's the name of the workgroup) I have edited hosts file and created an lmhosts file. Before I did I could have only used IP addresses. Any help would be highly appreciated! |

| Vista Enterprise 32bit | Re: vista x64 vs xp x86 networking issue I remember having to run the network setup wizard in Windows XP aswell as setting up in Vista, I could be wrong but I think XP needs to have networking enabled fully to register in the workgroup. |

| Vista Ultimate x64 | Re: vista x64 vs xp x86 networking issue Well, my problem is eventually solved. Very strange but after a firmware upgrade of my router everything is going fine. It's weird because with vista x86 it worked fine. Anyway thanks for everybody for replies/suggestions. P.S.: Now I'm using a 3rd party firmware (DD-WRT v24 (05/24/08) std). Thanks again! Bye |
