Trouble connecting to websites in IE

Has anyone else had trouble connecting to certain internets sites they otherwise could visit before Microsoft issued their emergency security patch about two weeks ago? Solution(s)?

After patching my system, I’ve found that I can’t connect to, or have limited functionality on certain websites, last.fm.com comes to mind; I couldn’t listen to one of the music liberties there till I turned off Internet Explorer’s “Protected Mode”. I’m using the 32-bit version of IE.

When it comes to IE’s security features and settings I have to admit I’m clueless.

Other then suggesting I switch browsers, yeah, I know, IE “blows” , are there some settings in IE that I should look at.

Thanks

As part of the IE "fix" they recommend you turn your internet settings in the Tools Menu to "High"

This would severely curtail your browsing experience. Also if your internet settings disable Java or ActivX controls this could also affect the websites you visit. You should be aware that Java and ActivX are also used by the "baddies" to download malware to your computer so use them with caution and make sure you have a good antivirus and regularly scan for spyware and malware using the free Microsoft MSRT (among others)

Re: Trouble connecting to websites in IE

Anti-Virus - Check
Spyware/malware scanner - check
Phising Filter on in IE - check

I don't have my internet settngs set to "High" as I do know that'll kill my browsing experience. Whatever Microsoft did with this patch seems to have curtailed my browsing experience as well. Guess i'll have to look as my active x controls and java settings and figure out what's what.

I generally shy away from suspicious sites, am aware of the java and active x attacks posed by the bad guys.

Thanks.
