| Vista home premium 32bit | Can't enable wireless Yesterday, all was fine but this morning my HP TX1000 Laptop wouldn't auto connect to my wireless router (1 metre away). I remembered that on the bootup Wireless Assistant turned on Bluetooth but not Wireless. In the Network and Sharing Centre, "Manage Wireless Networks" isn't showing so I can't turn it on. In what may be a related issue, I can't get into Services - Vista says that either I don't have permission (I'm logged on as Administrator) or it can't find Windows/System32/Services.msc (which I can't see). I've done the obligiatory re-start and I've connected via cat5 but I need to resolve this - can anyone help? |

| Vista home premium 32bit | Re: Can't enable wireless As I said, my solution was to take it to the HP repair shop and they fixed it. It required some hardware to be replaced. |

| Vista x86, Windows 7 x86 Build 7201 (Clean install) | Re: Can't enable wireless This may sound silly but have you made sure that is enabled on the laptop? Usually there is a button combination (e.g. FN+F1) or a button on the front/side/above the keyboard. Just a thought |

| Vista x64 Premium (clean install) | Re: Can't enable wireless You know...I followed all of these actions, and this may sound so elementary and so silly, but sometimes it is the really simple stuff that trips you up! ![]() I looked at the bottom of my laptop and found the wireless Lan mac address, and it was way different than the one the ipconfig was reporting. So, I put that mac address in my list of allowed on our wireless router and .... CHA...Ching...I was connected. Go figure. Just a thought. My System Specs ![]() This may also sound silly, but I've been working with Windows since version 2, and it still trips me up with the simple stuff! Haha..Today, my new Toshiba laptop would not connect. Turns out the wireless mac address that is on the bottom of the laptop was not the same as the one being reported by ipconfig. So, I put that mac address in our wireless router's list of allowable mac addresses...and Bing! I was on. Go figure. I had already done just about everything else except through it off the 3rd floor balcony. It's always the obvious that gets me. |
