| 32~ | Can someone explain TCP autotuning/Chimney offload? I have read it throughout the links and tutorials here but I still don't get it, correct me if I am wrong but different routers would require different autotuning? I had this(http://www.vistax64.com/network-inte...tml#post923101) issue before and sometimes, very random, still, I have loss of internet. Yes, wireless does that but this is just really frigging odd. I have placed two laptops together. One is an XP, the other Vista, and they are upstairs in the house, what's odd is that the Vista(new laptop) loses internet while the XP(2 yr old laptop) does not. Is it because I have set the autotuning wrong or should I change something? I really do not know. I thought I fixed it when I played around with the autotuning and the chimney but apparently I have not 100% fixed it. Random loss of internet: sometimes I would lose it in 10minutes and every 2 minutes after that I lose it, sometimes I lose it after 2 or 4 hours. Is it my router? I have a Linksys WRT54G, anyone own a router like this and had issue with it before with Vista? Or is it my laptop? Again, I don't know. It's a new laptop, the internet card and whatnot are stable and working fine. Thank you all for reading. |

| Vista Home Premium 32bit | Are both laptops ( XP and Vista ) hardwired or wireless ? I am not losing my connect on Vista ( hardwired to WRT54GS ) but am experiencing bandwidth degradation which I have yet to see anyone take a stab at. My own experience with this network stuff says stay away from tweaking the router settings and focus on the network adapter ( drivers and settings ). As for the network rewrite they did with Vista, I have tried all the known / posted tweaks w/o any success ( or understanding of what I am doing ) --- sorry I could not help more but if I see something I will writeBTW as for your original question ---see this link : The things that are better left unspoken : Backward Compatible Networking with Server Core |
