Can't connect from XP to mapped Vista drive

I am able to map a Vista 64 drive from my XP machine but I get a cryptic message: Access Denied when trying to display the Vista files. I am able to go the other way - open the XP folders/files in Vista. Google searchs provide much info but I'm just not able to access the Vista folders or files from my XP machine after trying many things.

create a spare account on vista, and give it administrator priviledges and a password, and turn on password protected sharing, this will give it a platform for authorisation.
