Vista wireless connection issues

I recently purchased my daughter a Dell 1525 and was able to connect to my home wireless system (2 Wire 1800) without a problem. I moved my daughter into the dorm and did not test the wireless there...she had a "hard connect". While she was away I upgraded to a 2 wire 2701 HG-B and when she came home for the weekend she could not connect to the new router. I did the usual things...deleted all of the existing wireless profiles...and an XP laptop in the house did not have this problem. The issue is when I open the dialog box to connect to the wireless it sees the wireless in the house and sees its strength...when I click on connect it just closes the dialog box and does not take me to either of the screens that should appear....depending on whether the site is secure or not. I have spent over five hours with Dell uninstalling and reinstalling their utility/troubleshooting, etc...no luck. I am now at the point with Dell where I will be forced to a "fee based support" number for further resolution. I tried other wireless sites (Starbucks, etc) to elminate my router as the culprit...the program just blows up once I hit connect and I do not know why...can anyone help?
