You will need to describe a little more than that. Like your wireless router setup. How does your wireless normally work? Do you have an internet light blinking on your wireless router? How about your modem? Did you try connecting to your ssid?

Ok so you've figured out that the problem is your computer. Check your wireless settings. Make sure key and encryption type match and check your ip address.

Everybody needs to understand that the problem isn't going to get resolved by Vista bashing, the reason your not getting an "identified" network, is because uPnP(universal plug and play) isn't enabled in windows(network discovery), I sometimes get this when I connect external network drives connected via ethernet, unidentified network comes up, simply enable network discovery and your unidentified network will disappear.

Upnp is known as Network Discovery on Windows Vista. It is disabled by default since Windows Firewall blocks Network Discovery. In case you do not know how to enable Network Discovery in Vista please check my blog : Windows Vista - Shaun’z Blog
