| vista x64 | Can't Connect wifi w/internet when connected to RJ45 to another Router (x64) I have never run into this before. I have a dsl modem/gateway (actiontec) which i use to connect to the internet when I connected a Linksys WRT54G v.4 router to my laptop thru RJ45, WITH wifi disabled on the router, I lose connectivity to the internet on the wifi connection. I'm used to XP with independent connectoids. Looking at the properties on each connection, they appear to be correct. Has anyone run into this on Vista? I thought surely by disco'g the wifi on the Linksys Router it should just be a standard wired connection. both routers are setup for DHCP. Is that what's confusing Vista? weird. appreciate any help. I am so out of troubleshooting ideas. |

| vista x64 | Re: Can't Connect wifi w/internet when connected to RJ45 to another Router (x64) I understand your confusion lol. the wifi was disabled on the Linksys router which i planned to use for local networking. I thought the 2.4ghz device must be interfering with the Actiontec Dsl/Wifi Gateway. Disabling wifi on the Linksys had no effect to resolve the problem. as soon as i power up the Linksys, I'd lose internet connectivity on the Actiontec. It's an Actiontec GT724WGR Actiontec what's really weird is the actiontec showed connectivity to the internet, and still had an IP.... I just couldn't connect or ping any websites from my browser. appreciate any help and ideas. I'd like to expand my home network with an NAS, IP camera etc, but not if I can't accomplish a simple connection like this. Something just isn't right. I do have Commodo Internet Security Suite, but received no connectivity errors or blocking. That's about the only thing I can think of. |

| Vista Home Premium 32bit | Re: Can't Connect wifi w/internet when connected to RJ45 to another Router (x64) I understand your problem. So what you want to do is connect your Actiontec via Ethernet to Linksys. Listen: Plug one end of RJ45 to Ethernet Out of Actiontec. Plug other end into the Linksys Ethernet In Port. Turn wireless off the Actiontec and wireless on the linksys. then connect your computer via WiFi. |

| vista x64 | Re: Can't Connect wifi w/internet when connected to RJ45 to another Router (x64) thx guys. i didn't know that wirelss was still enabled, after I disabled it. I ordered a 2.4 ghz ccd camera that should come in today. Hopefully, I can position the receiver to not cause interference with the actiontec. The range on 2.4 ghz was more than I expected, so it could be a real problem. I guess i'll leave the Linksys out of the loop for now. The actiontec has great wifi range. The linksys is not as good. We live in a 100 yr old house with plaster and lath so good wifi is hard to come by. Appreciate your help. I was amazed how quickly it knocked out the actiontec! |
