Packet Loss With Vista 32 bit

I have been having problems with my wireless for a few months now without finding a solution. I am not amazing with the technical aspects of computers but I am ok. The main problem from this is random disconnects or lag spikes. I play online poker and sometimes the loss only lasts a few seconds and after the "network error working on a solution.."(not a vista message) box pops up everything catches up and i can continue playing, other times the loss lasts long enough to completely disconnect me from the internet, although I can almost always get back on after disabling and re-enabling the connection, it often takes a few minutes and is very frustrating.

I am baffled by this and find my self way over my head any time i try to fix it.
If anyone could give me some solutions to try or references to helpful information I would be more than grateful. I did test my router with the microsoft tool and every test checked out fine. I also believe it is either a vista 32 bit problem or a problem with my computer specifically and not my network or ISP, since there is an xp and vista 64 bit machines both connected wirelessly to the same network with no loss. I will be checking this post every hour or so the next few days if you need more information. Thank you!

System specs:
vista 32 bit service pack 1
Gateway MT3419
AMD Turion 64 (x2) Mobile technology TL-52 1.60 ghz
2.00gb RAM
Realtek 8185 Extensible 802.11b/g wireless device

Router:
Lynksis DI-524 802.11 b/g

**EDIT** I tested my laptop on my school network with a basic ping test and it is doing the same thing. Some packets just have the travel time spiked from the normal 2-3 to 1000 or more and others completely time out. This rules out my router and I have the same problem with an external wifi card, which points to it being a problem with my os. Any help would be appreciated!
