Can you enable your internet connection while computer is in sleep mode

I have started playing with Logmein so I can help access relatives computers to fix their issues and access files on my desktop from my laptop when I'm on the road. So far I have found this to be a great application but in order for me to access my desktop I need for the computer to be on.

Is there a way to have the internet connection to be enabled while the system is in sleep mode?

Sleep (power state S3) means the RAM is still getting fed power, but little else.

What you want is to enable Wake-On-LAN (WOL) in the BIOS and the OS, and to configure things so that an attempt to remote control from the outside wakes up the box.

Here's a good walkthrough:

SmallNetBuilder - Small Network Help - How To: Wake on LAN / Wake on WAN

By the way, Remote Desktop/Assistance (RDP) is already built into the OS (at least the Business flavours of Vista and higher). It's generally safer to use services already embedded within the OS, unless you need some other functionality that's not provided.
