Troubles printing in a home network

I have an annoying problem that might be a Vista problem. I am using a D-Link router with a built-in printerserver and a USB cable from the server to a HP Deskjet printer (I have two, one 1500-series, one 2300, both having the same problem). Ok. I install the printer via a TCP/IP port, no problem. I print a test page, it starts ok, but stops and hangs 2-3 lines from the end, and the print queu hangs. I have contacted HP, no help, and Microsoft, no help. No error messages. Has anyone heard of this, I have found nothing in different fora? In addition: I also have a PC using XP, use the same print server and printer without any problems

Re: Troubles printing in a home network

What happens if you print another job? Does it flush out the print queue?

No, not even when I stop the print spooler, shut off the PC and start again!! I still have the print job hanging there. I have found some kind of internal print processor in Vista, but I cannot administer it in spite of being administrator!

Re: Troubles printing in a home network

You might check the tutorials section on User Accounts. There's one about how to access the Real Administrator account in Vista. Seems odd. I thought maybe where it was over a network the test page might have ended in the middle of a packet or something. But if another job doesn't even flush it then something is weird.

Re: Troubles printing in a home network

Ok, thanks. I the print job might stop as you say in a middle of a packet, in that case in the same packet regardless of printer. But I cannot get rid of the print job by flushing it with something else. IŽll try again of course

Re: Troubles printing in a home network

It might not be a bad idea to see if there's a user forum for the router. If that printer port is causing trouble there may be a work-around or fix. If you find out what it is please post cuz some day I may have network boxes for printer and HD instead of just hanging stuff off one PC on my Lan.

Re: Troubles printing in a home network

I can search for such a forum. But I don't think that the print server causes the problem? When I use XP I can print as I like. But, of course, thinking one more step! Maybe you are right? The print server might be incompatible with Vista! Haven't thought of that before.
