| VISTA home prem 32bit SP2 --- XP Pro SP3 32bit | I doubt you can help but doesn't hurt to ask Hi everyone, I'm at a friends home and setting up her computer/network. I have everything running well on the XP tower but her vista laptop won't connect wirelessly to the internet. The network is asking for the code under the router. The little piece of paper on the bottom of it got scratched when we jamed it between the tower and the corner of the desk. ![]() I called verizon and gateway for her and they said they can't help and also ( as always !!!!!!!!! ) said to reformat. I know it's a security issue but come on ![]() I had her call verizon back and they want to send her a new router and mentioned there may be a charge. 1.) how much are routers today? 2.) can they do that? 3.) does anyone have an app that can view it. I had something like it but I can't find it in my disk full of tricks. Thanks in advance, Carmine ps attached is the app I found Last edited by pacinitaly; 03-26-2009 at 02:15 PM.. |

| Vista Home Premium 64bit | Re: I doubt you can help but doesn't hurt to ask Use the working tower, find the router address by looking at the gateway address when you do this: Start, Run, cmd ipconfig /all Look under the ethernet adapter and you will find "default gateway" Write this address down and enter it into your browser. Default username is normally admin Default password is normally password or pass You would have to tell us the router make/model to tell you exactly where to go from here, but you are looking for the wireless network setup. (look for maintenance or similar) Under that setup you should find the wireless security. Look at the security code and note if it is WEP 64, WEP 128, or WPA. Match those settings on your vista laptop, including the key (code). Also note the SSID, which will tell you for sure that you are connecting to *your* wireless network and not trying to connect to someone else's. You should also change the admin password !- JC |

| Vista Home Premium X64 | Re: I doubt you can help but doesn't hurt to ask check and see if the IP addresses are conflicting, and be shore your work groups are the same. Vista and XP have different default work group names. i just went threw this myself when trying to share my dial up connection wireless from my desktop to my new laptop. i just had to change the work groups to match, change the default IP address on the router ( my factory password was admin so try that as well) and now I'm good to go using dial up wireless. ![]() i just have to connect with the desktop first. |
