Is this a bad website?

Is web-rebates.com a bad site? I was on directv.com and I had to click on something to get a rebate and it brought me to web-rebates.com to open a adobe reader page with a rebate slip for directv wich I printed out. I just ask this because I heard about some trjan called webrebates.exe and didnt know if these 2 things had anything in common. Here are the ratings it got from Norton, Mcfee and wot

Re: Is this a bad website?

PS-I really hope you are not just using Malwarebytes as you antivirus program- becuase it is not very good. It detected only 2.66% of a malware sample containing 800.025 items, in the folowing categories:
Windows Viruses, Trojans, Backdoors, Worms, Spyware, Adware, Rootkits, Exploits, Keyloggers, Hacking Tools, Malicious Scripts and other malware
note- No Certified labs have ever tested this product (Vendor never submitted), and this is the only source I could find who did test it. Source:http://ssupdater.com/modules/Forums/...ded&show=&st=&

Considering the fact that malwarebytes has never had an entry in comparison Antimalware/Antivirus lab testing- and has never recieved, any lab certification from AV-Comparatives/Virus Bulletin VB100, I would think about running an online scanner from a reputable certified vendor and "doublecheck" your current products performance and detection capabilities.

try this: NOD32 4.0 (online scan-no download)/ Windows Defender (full scan)

Is the site bad or not?

Also you obviusly have not read the reviews for malware bytes-

"While being free, Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware is quickly growing to become the number one malware remover."
-download.com

"Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware is a surprisingly effective freeware anti-malware tool."
-cnet.com

"Using Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware is like bringing an M4 to a knife fight."

I think you are ok on the sites. No issues with the Address on IE8. Seem legit. Web-rebates.com appears to not be the same as "webrebates.exe" (which may in fact be spyware), but there have been reported issues that the Rebates are not honored by Vendor Companies which may have nothing to do with web-rebates.com.

The webrebates.exe appears to be tied to the following sites:You install the exe, and are able to earn "cash back" You earn a cash-back rebate percentage anytime you make a purchase through one of the participating stores. The installed program apparently does more than "just track" your online purchases.

Malwarebytes
I have read the reviews, and the comments made by the products developers- and I have read the User reviews-(368 Users out of 522 who do not recommend this product for various reasons as a standalone). I will give you some more info: "Editor's Choice" reviews/Awards are usually a result of the site being paid to promote the product. There are no legitimate lab tests of Malwarebytes, and it is not designed to be a stand-alone antivirus. It is basically like a very specialized version of Ad-aware, Webroot's Spysweeper, or Windows Defender, etc. (except these have undergone Comparative lab testing, and are more comprehensive programs- Malwarebytes deals almost exclusively with removal of Polymorphic malware)

Ranking:
30. Malwarebytes Anti-Malware - 02.66% detection rate is very bad as it leaves you wide open to 97% of existing and emerging malware threats currently circulating and in the "wild".

Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware is not an all-inclusive anti-malware program. It is intended to be run in conjunction with classic antivirus software. Marcin Kleczynski, the man behind the product, commented on this by email:
"Malwarebytes and antivirus are not the same thing-Our biggest priority is always to detect what common anti-virus software fails miserably to detect -- these are usually the polymorphic Trojans that are a pain to pick apart. We then focus on samples that are less of a priority because of their large detection rates ... "

Interview with Bruce Harrison , developer/creator of Malwarebytes who states that the program should only be used in conjuction with other Antivirus Programs:

It’s important to note that the real time protection module is disabled in the free version. Less critical, is the disabling of scheduled scanning, and scheduled updating in the free version.
Since real time protection is disabled, I would not recommend that you use this free version of Malwarebytes’ Anti-Malware as a stand alone security application, since it simply will not offer you adequate protection. Instead, use it only as an on-demand scanner.

One should never use MalwareBytes Anti-malware (MBAM) as your only anti-virus program.

Malwarebytes Antimalware (MBAM) is a specialised removal tool to deal with approximately 1600 of the latest...and toughest to remove threats:
http://www.malwarebytes.org/malwarenet.p...

That's ONLY 1600 out of the over one half million (500,000) virus and malware threats out there. Not very good odds!
http://www.securityfocus.com/brief/655?r...

While MBAM is excellent at what it does, it is not a comphrehensive anti-malware solution and should only be used in addition to good general-purpose anti-virus and anti-spyware software.

Re: Is this a bad website?

Malwarebytes is used by us a lot in the McAfee help forums and one of several tools we recommend for use in certain situations, in addition to regular anti-virus. It's also recommended by several reputable malware forums for specialist use against certain infections.

If you want a good all-round anti-spyware application I recommend SUPERAntiSpyware free: SUPERAntiSpyware.com - Downloads
