Computer keeps loosing connection....

Hello everyone,

I'm new to this forum and I'm hoping that someone has had the issue I'm having with a latop, where after a while it will lose connection to the internet and network

:sarc: We setup brand new SBS 2008 network, we joined all the computers (windows xp, servers 2003 and 2 vista business pc) to the network without any issues. One of the laptops was running Home premimun 64bit (which it used to connect to the network without any issues) and needed to be upgraded. After upgrading this laptop to Vista Business 64bit and joined to the network, I noticed that after about 30 to 45 minutes the laptop keep loosing connectivity to the internet and only had limited connection, at this point we can see our network nor can we reset the adapter.

Actios taken:

1) I tried to view the connections properties but it hangs, after I reboot the laptop, I get connection to the internet but after a while it will lose connection again.

2) I even reformated the hard drive, reinstalled the OS, thinking I had some files corruption or something was not setup properly the first time...I downloaded the latest nic drivers, chipset from Dell. I also disable the Wireless card just to see if it was a conflict, but this has not fix the issues.

3) Ran diagnostic, it keeps prompting to reset network connection.

4) Setup static IP ---> flush dns / registerdns (nothing)
5) Ran nesth command (nesth-->winsock---> reset all (still having the issue)
6) check the event viewer both systems and application to look for any issues...( I have not seen anything that will raised a flag)

Searched google and I can't find what's wrong...

Any help or comments will be appreciated...

Thanks :D

Out of interest which parts of the event viewer are you looking at? or are you looking at all of them? If you cant see anything what the software is reporting one possibility I am thinking is possible hardware fault

I looked for errors, warning in both System and Application section.... I tried Looking for any indication that there is a nic problem or drivers.

I don't have the laptop on hands right now but I will try to get the event viewers...

thanks for the fast response... :)

Sounds kinda hardware-ish. Does the same eventual connectivity loss happen if you boot the machine to [safe mode + net] and use it that way for a while?

I would start by removing all network adapters from device manager. then, rebooting. Let the server find them all. Then, upgrade the network drivers for the adapters. If you are using a hardware firewall on your network, disable the firewall on the servers and make sure no anti-virus firewall is on that server.

Thanks for the reply Michael.

I already did all that, as I pointed out, this was working fine before we wiped the os and reinstalled Windows Vista Business.

I'm not sure is a hardware issue, because it worked before.

Question? What does then Anti-virus on the server has to do with this issue? The firewall is a hardware firewall and is setup on the edge network, we are running TrendMicro Worry Free. Also, there are 20 other computers on the network and none of them are having this issue ...

I have not tried to boot in safe mode with Networking... I'm going to give this a try tomorrow when I go on site.

Any other suggestions?
