Problems for Network Sharing

Hey guys,
I'm running a visa 32 bit laptop and a Windows xp PC on a network and im trying to send files from the laptop to the PC. My laptop is unable to connect to the internet and I think the problem is that I have a virus so I'm just going to reformat the whole thing.
I want to send my laptop files to my PC, but when I go to the network and sharing center on the laptop to turn public folder sharing on, the whole window just freezes when I apply the setting. The workgroup names are the same.
Is there anything else that I have to do to be able to share the files?

I have a problem like that.

In terms of internet connectivity, have you checked your IP settings? Also, reboot into Safe Mode with Networking and try going into the Network & Sharing Center again.

Also, try backing up your data onto external storage, like an external hard drive, flash drive or burning it onto discs.

I brought my laptop to Geek Squad today and they found that there is no Gateway and no IP so apparently it's for sure a virus...
I'm thinking im just going to get a USB cord that connects both computers... Cheaper than an external HD plus I have lots of space on this PC.

Good luck with that, but be careful when connecting both machines or your desktop could get the 'virus'.
