Can someone please help?. My computer will be on, but not online, and my home phone will ring and after the second ring my computer modem starts reacting like a fax modem and starts ringing and then says your call did not go through please try again. What can I do to stop this from happening? My modem is just automatically reacting after the second ring and I don't want this.
I am using Windows Vista Home Premium.

Hello CHickerson,

Welcome to the Vista Forums.

This should be a setting in whatever Fax software you have installed. If you don't have any fax software, then take a look at the properties/settings for your modem.

Hope this helps. Enjoy your stay.

Hello and thanks for your response. I don't have any fax software installed and vista won't let me change anything in the modems properties. I am using old fashioned dial-up internet and my phone line is hooked from back of pc to phone jack splitter and phone is connected to other port/splitter side.

Don't you have 2 telephone jacks on your modem card? One should be for phone line in and the other should be out to the answering machine/telephone. That's how mine is set up. Try that and see if you still have the problem.
